Update #1: Create an Opus Logo

I want to create an opus logo for Jad. Here is what he sent regarding what he wanted the logo to represent: Opus translates to “an artful work” in ancient Latin Work, Art, Growth, Progress, Perseverance, Goals, Ambition, Community. Finally, I want a logo that is simple to draw but memorable. For example, instagram’s logo is a spectacular design;

Update #2: Brainstorming

10% complete
I thought about what kind of images represented "work, art, growth, progress, perseverance, goals, ambition, and community" while being simple to draw and memorable. I decided on simple stair design of some sort.
Obstacles Faced: I'm not great at actually drawing, so I know I will need to use something like photoshop or some kind of iPad app to help me get started on a design.
Next Steps: Get to work on a design!
Discussion: Will a simple logo representing stairs adequately reflect the descriptors I was given?

Update #3: Draft #1

20% complete
Created a Draft using Pixlr (a free online photoshop-like application) using circles and other shapes, then manipulating them into the beginning of a logo.
Next Steps: Clean things up a bit, add color.

Update #4: Draft #2

35% complete
Made the edges of the steps perpendicular to the ground, added color, and cleaned things up a bit.
Additional Notes: Try versions with fewer steps, clean up the black shadow part of the logo to make it look uniform and neat. Position the steps down and to the left just a little bit.
Discussion: Should there be fewer steps? I'm thinking so. I also want to make the black part of the logo look clean and uniform- almost like a logo within a logo if that makes sense.

Update #5: Draft 3

Worked with Fletcher McGee to come up with a more simplified logo. It has a very "hand-drawn" look right now which will need to be refined. If you squint and look at it from a distance it looks great! (actually try it). Updates coming soon...
