Progress Updates (10 total)

Update #1: Complete the Fall Challenge on GoodReads

There are 12 total achievements to get between now and the end of December. I have 3/12 and would like to see how many books I can read that qualify under the categories!
Challenges Overcome: I have completed three of the goals on GoodReads
Obstacles Faced: Having less time to read due to work/holidays etc
Next Steps: The next achievement is Community Picks- these are books that are very popular and voted by readers. I’m going to start reading My Last Innocent Year by Daisy Alpert Florin.

Update #2: Finished my book for the Fall Challenge

10% complete
I finished My Last Innocent Year making it the 4th book of 12 for the fall reading challenge

Update #3: Started the next book

15% complete
This milestone is Hispanic Heritage so I chose Everything She Knew by Annette Chavez Macias

Update #4: Finished my book for Hispanic Heritage

20% complete
I completed the 5th challenge on Good Reads, I am now starting the 6th challenge and the topic is ‘Spine Tinglers’
Challenges Overcome: Completed the Hispanic Heritage book choice, it took me a little longer because I was busy with work this week!
Obstacles Faced: I typically don’t read scary books because I’m a baby when it comes to this genre, but here we go!
Next Steps: On to the Spine Tinglers challenge!
Looking Back: Set aside time to read vs doom scrolling

Update #5: Finished the Spine Tinglers Book

30% complete
The next topic is Heart Warmers. I do tend to read these types of books so I should get through it pretty quickly.
Challenges Overcome: I was able to get through a scary book!
Obstacles Faced: Another busy work week coming up but I will make time to read
Next Steps: Starting ‘The Cinnamon Bun Book Store’
Looking Back: It actually wasn’t that deep- I don’t know why I don’t typically read “thriller” books. It actually had me tearing up at the end

Update #6: Completed the 7th challenge!

40% complete
I read this book relatively fast and it was nearly 350 pages. I feel like the cheesy romance books go really fast.
Obstacles Faced: The plot to romance books are all the same so it made getting super into the book kind of hard.
Next Steps: Next challenge is Fiction Faves and I chose The Wedding People.

Update #7: Finished the 8th challenge

50% complete
I finished ‘fiction faves’ and have moved on to #9, ‘memorable memoirs’
Challenges Overcome: Even though the 8th challenge was a fairly easy genre, I feel like I struggled getting into the book
Obstacles Faced: Reading something that isn’t so difficult to get into
Next Steps: The next challenge is #9, memorable memoirs, and the book I chose is about a woman who was an addict and living a double life. sounds interesting already!
Looking Back: Sometimes I try to choose books that are free on kindle unlimited but maybe it’s worth purchasing the book if you’re more interested in it

Update #8: completed the 9th challenge

65% complete
I completed the 9th challenge “memorable memoirs” on goodreads. I am on to the 10th challenge “native voices.”
Obstacles Faced: I didn’t really like the main character and her actions in her life when she was in active addiction so it was hard for me to feel for her. She ended up getting and staying sober but the book was more so about her journey while being an addict, being in jail and rehab.
Next Steps: Native Voices! I chose ‘The Summer of Bitter and Sweet’
Looking Back: I learned that I don’t love reading memoirs.

Update #9: Completed the 10th challenge

75% complete
I finished the book I was reading for the Native Voices reading challenge. Now I am on to short stories.
Challenges Overcome: This book was tough for me to get into at first. I think I am struggling getting into books because they are not ones I would typically choose.
Obstacles Faced: It’s the holiday season so I am going to make time to finish the Good Reads Challenge!
Next Steps: Short Stories- I chose ‘Assembly’
Looking Back: I find that if ai read the first 30-40 pages without taking a break, I tend to get a better grasp on the book

Update #10: Finished my bite size book

85% complete
I finished the 11th challenge with a bite sized book. i really struggled finishing it even though it was a short story
Obstacles Faced: I thought I would like the book I chose as it was about race relations but i think that maybe there wasn’t enough of the book to really enjoy it or get into it
Next Steps: The last and final challenge! Choice Awards- I chose One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune
Looking Back: I don’t know if it was the style of the book or the authors writing but i did not enjoy it
