Progress Updates (3 total)
Update #1: Repair bathroom pipes
I rebuilt the plumbing for the basement bathroom this summer but now the rest of the pipes need to be brought up to standard
Challenges Overcome: I have tiled the room, rebuilt the sewage system, added concrete and floor tile and replaced the sink and toilet
Obstacles Faced: I know leaks may happen but im starting at my best and preparing for issues as they arise
Looking Back: Its crazy to me that most input plumbing these days is done by “sweating” together copper pipes using a blowtorch and soldier
Update #2: Started by installing a new drain on the tub so that it flowed smoother and was the right size for the in floor drainage pipe
50% completeThe drainage pipe in the floor was 1.5” but the old tub pipes were 1.25” so the system needed to be rebuilt to match the in floor sewer system
Update #3: Finished soldiering all of the intake pipes and reconnecting the tub
100% completeAll of the copper 1/2” intake pipes needed to be “sweated” together, meaning soldiered to each other, the two tub input points were the hardest as each one had 8-10 tiny connections
Challenges Overcome: Even though my soldiering job is at the level of newbie Im really proud of how it turned out
Obstacles Faced: I think that this was a project i put off for many months because i felt unsure about the skills required to complete it, but with the help of the local plumbing supply staff, once i got the correct tools and hardware it wasnt as hard as I thought it was going to be
Looking Back: In plumbing there is always a tool that can fix the problem, but if you are trying to use the wrong tools things can go wrong quickly
