Progress Updates (5 total)

Update #1: Knit Mittens!

I’ve never knit mittens before but I’m ready to start building some new skill sets and continue learning colorwork techniques. I’m going to knit the Drops Festive Nordic Mittens - here’s the cuff I started with.
Challenges Overcome: I had to revisit double pointed needles - I’ve used them once for a hat but only to finish the top, so I’m new to using them. I had to spend some time reading up on cast on techniques and do some math to figure out how to split the stitches between 3 needles

Update #2: Finished cuff and started colorwork pattern

15% complete
I finished the cuff and started the thumb and colorwork pattern. I’m not exactly sure how the thumb will work - I’m following 2 colorwork diagrams at once which is a bit confusing but I’ve been able to figure out!

Update #3: Finished body of left mitten

45% complete
Just in time for the blizzard of 26 I knit the left mitten… without a thumb. But I can’t believe how easy it was to get this far.
Obstacles Faced: The chart felt pretty complicated because I had to switch between the chart for the thumb increases and the chart for the rest of the mitten, but I was able to figure it out!
Next Steps: Picking up the thumb stitches and returning to thumb chart!
Looking Back: Got pretty comfortable with double pointed needles

Update #4: Finished 1 mitten and started the 2nd

60% complete
I finished the thumb, cast on the ribbing, and started the colorwork on the 2nd mitten!

Update #5: Onto the next mitten!

75% complete
I’m working my way up the body of the 2nd mitten and am a few rows away from the decreases that close the top.
Next Steps: Next I’ll finish the body, close up the top, and pick up the live stitches from the thumb increase section again
Looking Back: I’m surprised at how easy these mittens work up - I’ve only been working on them for about a week. I thought it would be boring to do the same process all over again but it’s slightly different because the thumb is on the other side and I still find the colorwork pattern engaging!
