Progress Updates (3 total)

Update #1: Make a handmade item for a baby boy

In anticipation of the first time I get to see him, I want to include in the gift, something I made with love. His dad is like one of my own kids, so the baby feels very special.
Challenges Overcome: I went through my collection of yarn and picked one I liked best. Now I need to decide what to make.

Update #2: Since heart is the sign of love, I decided it was the one for this project.

70% complete
I wanted to experiment with various sensory fillings such as cotton, beans and paper but realised that it was too risky at that age and that it wasn’t going to be large enough for that. So I ended up using the cotton fillers I save from med bottles.
Challenges Overcome: I’m very happy when I make something for others, especially little ones.
Obstacles Faced: The only challenge is age related, being all thumbs and working at night without any natural light.
Next Steps: I’m almost done. So far I put in about an hour and a half and I need another half hour to finish
Looking Back: I’m learning that I need a lot of magnifying to be able to work on small and delicate projects like this one.

Update #3: The heart is finished and I included a small handle to hang it with like on a Xmas tree

100% complete
I shouldn’t have committed to finishing on a week day. Although it was almost done, I didn’t have the energy to concentrate on it on a Friday evening.
Challenges Overcome: The fact that I was able to personally make something for the little one
Obstacles Faced: The only challenge was deciding on the object to make and how I was going to finish it
Next Steps: I hope to be able to continue to create more miniature pieces for small hands
Looking Back: Probably to give myself more time
