Update #1: Crochet a woven heart basket

I often like to include a handmade item as part of a gift. But I tire of repetitiveness. In the pursuit of a new idea, I came across this pattern by Yvonne van Zijl @bokkyshome. It’s an adaptation on the Swedish paper or fabric heart idea.
Challenges Overcome: Almost done with pink. It looked simple enough. A repetition on the granny square. However, I didn’t immediately realize that you’re only supposed to finish 3/4 of the square first, repeat 6 times without breaking the thread, then loop back and finish the missing quarter of each of the 6 squares. Took a couple of minutes to get it.

Update #2: I repeated the process with a different colour and weaved all 6 strips

I had difficulty keeping the rounded shapes identical. Although both threads require same size crochet, the white didn’t come out as firm.
Challenges Overcome: I managed to get the pieces to look as even as possible despite the challenges
Obstacles Faced: because of how small the pdf version was on my phone, I didn’t follow instructions and ended up having to redo some things.
Next Steps: I still need to stitch it together to form a solid 3 dimensional heart basket and add some frills and a handle
Looking Back: I learned the new technique of looping back to maintain an uninterrupted workflow. Also realised that 2 solid colours would have worked better together than a gradient colour.

Update #3: I finished the basket

100% complete
I sawed the 2 pieces together, added a simple cord and a tassel
Challenges Overcome: I’m happy to stay busy especially if I learn something new during the process
Obstacles Faced: No important challenges along the way
Next Steps: I need to find the proper recipient for it and I already started to crochet a phone holder using the new looping technique for the side strands.
Looking Back: I shouldn’t expectation masterpiece on the first try, but I always do!
