I successfully delivered my first TEDxTalk and it was an exciting milestone in my career. I hope to continue uniting education and medical research through public speaking. I learned so much about myself and the impact of reaching out to a braod community.
Challenges Overcome: Overcame personal insecurities relating to public speaking.
Obstacles Faced: Mostly associated with my desire to use complex technical terminology in order to present myself as credible. Had to overcome the stagefreight associated with speaking, by practicing my talk to small audiences, and by getting involved with other public speaking opportinies.
Next Steps: Continue to develop my public image and build a larger network full of nerds and people interested in clinical research, medical research, and medicine as a whole. There are so many ways to contribute to the evolution of medicine and I would like foster such a community.
Looking Back: Learned how to articulate complex concepts to a lay audience in a manner that is inviting and fun to engage with. This took hours of revision and simplification of many drafts to achieve.
