Progress Updates (4 total)

Update #1: Make Giant Takis

I'm going to make giant Takis. I already made the bag in preparation for the finished recipe
Challenges Overcome: I made the bag by using mounting tape in the back and bottom
Next Steps: Fold it and use mounting tape to make the bag hold better, then glue foil to it
Looking Back: Mounting tape is really strong, but if I could change anything it would be for the foil to get glued on before taping because it was difficult to do on the inside

Update #2: Set up the frying station

35% complete
The frying station brought me the visualization that I needed. Now I know how the process will look
Obstacles Faced: It was really difficult getting all the eggs prepared. We used 72 cheap eggs, so the shells kept breaking into the mix. Need a better way to crack a massive amount of eggs!
Next Steps: Fry the Takis! I'm going to try using the fold toothpick technique
Looking Back: It really helps me to organize everything I'm about to do before hand. This puts everything into focus and helps highlight if anything is missing or out of place

Update #3: Began frying

65% complete
We just dropped our first Taki in the oil and it was scary
Challenges Overcome: Dropping our first folded Taki in the hot oil
Obstacles Faced: It was hard to constantly roll and flip the Takis in the oil but we made a system
Next Steps: I need to wait for them to dry and add powder.
Looking Back: We learned that a slow drop was the way to go. Going in fast made a lot of oil come out.

Update #4: Made Giant Takis

100% complete
Just finished a bunch of giant Takis after frying them all for about an hour total.
Challenges Overcome: The biggest achievement I had was retaining the shape of Takis so well.
Obstacles Faced: The biggest challenge by far was being able to make the bag. Since a lot of the process was a one time thing especially foil, it was stressful but I got through it.
Next Steps: I want to definitely make them blue and hopefully work with Takis on it.
Looking Back: I learned that having more people help is key to getting equal fry patterns especially while multitasking.
