Progress Updates (4 total)

Update #1: Make Homemade Pumpkin Pie

My goal is to make giant pumpkin pie from a real pumpkin.
Challenges Overcome: I just got a 123 pound pumpkin from the superstore which was difficult to get up to my apartment.
Obstacles Faced: I anticipate that the pumpkin might be rotten on the inside.
Next Steps: First I’m taking in the size of the pumpkin but next we need to see the inside.
Looking Back: I’ve learned how they sold huge pumpkins at Safeway. These were huge way bigger compared to a pumpkin patch.

Update #2: Scooper the insides out

20% complete
I just scooped out the insides but also decorated it in the process
Challenges Overcome: I got out the seeds and make it into a jack-o-lantern as well
Obstacles Faced: It was tough to carve through the thick skin and get all the seeds out since it was so deep.
Next Steps: I’m gonna make spooky trail mix on the side and chop up the pumpkin to make it fit in the oven.
Looking Back: I learned that the pumpkin wasn’t in the best condition but I’ll still use part of it for the pie with most being other pumpkins.

Update #3: Made the seeds into trail mix and baked pumpkin

45% complete
I made spooky trail mix and got to make the different pumpkins
Challenges Overcome: I made a satisfying trail mix out of the seeds and baked 3 different pumpkins to consistency.
Obstacles Faced: It was challenging to see if the giant pumpkin was edible or not as the smell was off but it’s not something I usually have to think about.
Next Steps: I have to make the recipe with the homemade pumpkin purée now.
Looking Back: I learned that the big pumpkin didn’t taste the best. The small pumpkin was the most ideal but ended up mixing the medium and giant one too.

Update #4: Finished making the pie!

100% complete
Just added spices to the pumpkin purée and made it into pie!
Challenges Overcome: The slice was the most satisfying thing about it.
Obstacles Faced: My biggest challenge was slicing the pie without breaking the crust.
Next Steps: I want to use this recipe for Thanksgiving when I make it for my family.
Looking Back: I learned that making pumpkin pie isn’t that strenuous as there’s only around 6 ingredients without making your own crust.
