Progress Updates (5 total)
Update #1: Learn to Ollie
The building block of skating for tricks and cruising
Update #2: Popping
Realized the secret to getting the board off the ground comes from stepping on the tail, which pops the whole board up. The first part of the video shows this.
So, the trick is to jump “out of the way”, to allow the popping up board to travel freely. You can feel when you’ve popped the board properly, then begin jumping all at once
Update #3: Trying on pavement, need to work on balance
Much more difficult with a moving board, balance is all off, most of the time don’t get in the air because trying to stay centered. Bepis had good advice to try to keep CG towards center, where I’m leaning back on tail. To step on tail I’m shifting all my weight to tail so need to find sweet spot with technique
Update #4: Ollies at slow speed on concrete
Big breakthroughs: 1. really started jumping instead of being worried board would fly away if jumping. 2. started popping tail harder and more with toe than back of foot, reducing weight on back foot. 3. picking back foot up more to allow board to travel up. 4. got softer wheels to mitigate pebble fear
Needed improvements: still pushing board around when loading up to jump. Balance still slightly off
Update #5: Practicing Ollie while moving
50% completeI'm having trouble ollieing while moving. I can't seem to jump forward while applying pressure to the tail
Challenges Overcome: More comfortable riding around on the board. Can stationary ollie consistently
Obstacles Faced: When trying to ollie while moving I'm hesitant to jump because I think the board will just slip away. I think it just feels like such a sudden moment change, because stationary it's ok to put weight on the back foot. Now I need to find balance while moving.
I either slip the board away, jump to the front of the board without popping at all, or jumping off to the side
