Progress Updates (7 total)
Update #1: Perfect the unicorn
Usually the latte art I see on instagram is silly and not practical, but I came across a video of someone making a unicorn that was a super technical design and I was inspired to give it a try. Photo is my first attempt.
Update #2: Working on the details
55% completeAt a new store with a new espresso machine. I have still got my faithful milk pitcher. I steamed the milk a little thinner than normal for a latte, but also gave it a minute to settle before pouring. This gave me a better texture to work on the details.
Update #3: I don’t know if this is progress or regression
60% completePut focus on the wings, but lost progress on the head and body, I guess it’s coming together a little more?
Update #4: Got the body and finally nailed the head
85% completeFinally poured the head well, did the wings backward though, which is very frustrating.
Challenges Overcome: Head shape and horn look correct
Looking Back: Pour on the inside of the wing not the outside 🥴
Update #5: Brought it all together
95% completeBest wings so far, at least as far as connection to the body, weirdly the body, which had previously been a strength came out a little shaky
Challenges Overcome: Got a good shape on the wings and connected them nicely to the body. Poured a decent head shape and got a shaky horn up top.
Obstacles Faced: I keep running out of room in the cups 👎
Looking Back: Do not trace the wings, just pour them and move on!
Update #6: Body, legs, wings, head
95% completeTook a little more time on the body and wings, rushed the rest. Did it in a paper cup today, which generally is a little more difficult. Overall pretty stoked with how it came out. I am at the point where I don’t have to tell people what the design is anymore.
Challenges Overcome: Feel good about this one, I fear this may be as good as it gets for me
Obstacles Faced: There is a lot of technical pours that go into this, I keep filling the cup too fast and not leaving time or room for the full design.
Looking Back: Leave a little more room for the horn.
Update #7: This is as good as it’s gonna get
100% completeFigured out what I was doing wrong, poured the head after the body. Did the legs and tail last since they really take no technical skill, just milk poured flat.
