Run my first marathon sub 3:15

by alexCompleted

So… race day wasn’t what I expected lol. 20+ mph winds mixed with some heavy rain created an interesting day. I ran a 3:28:03 which is well below my goal of 3:15 - 3:20 but I am still very happy with the result! I came through the half marathon mark at about an 1:38 so was close to on pace but around mile 14-15 I started to slow as my quads started to go and by mile 24 my quads were completely gone. I just focused on continuing to move forward no matter the pain and it got me over the line! Beyond thrilled and can’t wait for the next one!!

Had a bit of a break from running (about a month) due to an injury. Getting back into a rhythm now.

Finish a marathon, running the whole way

by maxwellCompleted

Ran the whole way!! It was so hot and humid. I went out so fast, almost two minutes faster than my training runs which made me pretty nervous. But I just kept running by feel. And as mile after mile of 8:20s rolled by I was feeling good! When I hit mile 16, I felt so strong and that’s when I knew that no matter what I would meet my goal. My headphones died, no problem. Entered the zone. Barreled ahead. There’s a killer hill at mile 22. Head down, one foot in front of the other. One mile later I was at the top and it was literally all downhill from there. GG EZ. In the end, not only did I run the whole thing but I crushed my previous marathon time from 15 years ago. That race I was aiming for a 3:15 but crashed and burned and had to walk the last six miles so finished in 3:44. Things I learned this time around: - for the love of god train slow, most of my long runs were 10+min per mile - don’t pick up new sports (climbing / tennis) in the last weeks of training if you don’t want to get injured - when you do get injured it’s okay to skip 1.5 weeks of running including your only 20mi training run just let your body rest / heal - have fuuuuuuun!

Run the BAA 5km in 19 min (6:07 min/mile)

by alexCompleted

Had a couple crazy weeks leading into the race with not the best training but I did what I could. I finished in just over my goal of 19 min. Overall very happy with the race. The start was very chaotic and I had to weave a lot. Also started my kick way too soon at the end. For my first time racing a 5k very happy! Definitely learned a lot of lessons on how to race. I feel like the 5 km is a useful tool for that. Can’t wait for my next race… 10km!

Run a Half Marathon in under 1:30

by alexIn Progress

This was a great race! The course was super hilly but it made it very fun. I feel that I paced it very well and really put out my best effort. I finished with a time of 1:35:52 (according to my watch) and pace of 7:19 per mile. It didn’t hit my initial goal but I think it was a great performance based on my training. If I want to hit to 1:30 mark I need to put in more time and more effort, especially at higher intensity to help increase by speed. I will try to run another half sometime this spring and give it another go!!

Run the BAA 10k in under 40 min

by alexCompleted

44:48!! I completed my goal with 12 seconds to spare! This was a very very difficult race. My plan was originally to run slower then speed up in the last 3 miles. I ended up going a little faster (7:15) at the start and then really struggled in mile 3 but I pushed very hard in the end doing the final 1.25 miles in 8:30 (6:45 min/mile) to finish under my goal time. https://rtrt.me/ulink/BAARA/BOSTON-10K-2024/tracker/RCZAMNEG/focus

Ran 2.6 miles, longer than my previous longest run of 2 miles postpartum. Unfortunately had to stop once during this run.

Cover the Iron Man race distance in less than a week

Morning workout to make it in under 96h, nothing hurts anymore, let's go! I ate so much last night I'm afraid I'll be overweight and slow down lol I know that once in the water the swim is mine, I have to push through the run and accept the hour on the bike. That's all it takes. It's almost like Day 1. Like my body switched gears, impressive physiological change in just 4d. However, my mind is all over the place. I keep counting, 10%, 20%, ..., 50%, still 55%? Time seems to slow down and speed is slowly dropping again. Something funny happens when you reach the end, you could keep pushing but you choose to just keep going... I think I got a feel of what those great athletes feel like nearing an end. Without some external force to push you back in, it gets tough. I recommend setting up the option for breaks, based on how you will feel at that point in time, instead of how you feel when you are thinking about a break. For example, don't allow for a break before being halfway through, and then again for every other half to go. Now the very important part is to eat some delicious and rewarding food to finish this off.
